ILP Design Glogster

I am using Glogster to give an assignment to my 9th grade history class. I gave them a brief example of who my role model is and I want them to use glogster to expand their creativity . I designed a biography portion, video, pictures and quotes. I want the role models work to really shine through and to be conveyed well to the audience.

Blog Post 10

Greetings,

Welcome back, lets get straight into it this week. Excel is a powerful education tool that most teachers tend to rely on. It helps keep organization within a classroom and for a teacher within lesson planning. Between data collection surveys and excel I believe I will use the surveys more within my classroom because having anonymous surveys aids teachers in finding out the students perspective and how they feel about the material. Continuously collecting data is a great help in revamping teaching styles and material. I want each of my students to have a better experience from the last. I plan to give anonymous surveys to high school students mainly students in 9th and 10th the gauge their feelings about entering a new environment and learning new material. This survey is so I can better ease that transition as a educator.

As I reviewed my peers blogs I learned so much from their different experiences and goals as teachers. Some of my favorite was the weebly assignment and the class newsletter. It opened my eyes to a lot of platforms I can implement within in my own classroom. I also liked learning about adaptive technologies and how the classroom shared similar feelings about going on the tour of the technological lab.

My next skill that I would like to learn would have to be editing photos and revamping old photos. I would like to explore the photography field as a an educational tool for extracurricular activities within my classroom. Also learning how to make movies, I have seen so many memories saved and exhibited as art through movies and I know it would be a cool tool to have.

Blog Post 9

Greetings and Welcome Back,

It has been a while but here we are again. One of today's topic will be the flipped classroom. The flipped classroom is exactly what it says, instead of lectures and teaching in the classroom students do that part of learning at home. The actual assignments like projects, discussion boards and things of that nature are done in the classroom when everyone meets up. This unconventional style of teaching is rare but I do believe it has a lot of merit. A lot of students need extra time intake a new learning objective, 50 minutes during class is not always enough. When at home students have that extra time  to find examples and really understand the objective. While also still recieving that aid of clarification from the instructor when working on assignments in the classroom. Here is an educational resource for parents who are curious about this new way of learning.

Our next topic will be discussing the open terms. Open content is what you can and cannot use in what you find online.  Teacher's mostly go online to find inspiration or resources to help motivate and educate the children in their classroom. It is only right that limits be discussed and guidelines be placed much like copyright terms. Here is an example of open links that can be used.

Finally during the past two weeks I have learned a lot about my powerpoint skills and how to use it properly within a presentation. I have learned how to make each slide flow and also how I would like to use it within my own classrooms. I feel like powerpoint presentations are very effective and it helps students follow along within the class room. Two new things I learned during these assignments is how to disable linear navigation and also how useful action buttons can be. Action buttons help navigate the presentation  and also brings life to the powerpoint for student with some of the sound effects. I hope you too can take the time to explore Microsoft Powerpoint and learn how it can be useful to you within the class room.

Thanks Again for Tuning in ,

Welcome Back to my Blog ,

Power point can be used in so many different ways; in this blog we can tackle each level.  There is a way to create through power point presentations like Prezi, it explores more possible options of design and going outside the box from the normal power point presentations. In a debate, power point can also use to dissuade the other side by showing sides of the argument through a picture or video on the PowerPoint. We can also use this to analyze and explain to students we partake in this situations everyday through PowerPoint, we analyze pictures, by applying concepts we know and going back and forth trying to understand each other’s sides. Power point has the necessary tools to help with that by showing slides one by one and directing someone’s mind process. I do believe power point leaves a memorable  because we use them to study for test and it helps us look back on the new things we learned.

Staying up to trends is hard, however besides twitter and different social medias, here is another way to stay up to date with new things that may be getting invented everyday. Here is a screenshot of different technologies .

Welcome Back to my Blog !

Today we will address the topic of adaptive learning technologies that are used around the education system. You may think you have never seen them but it is more that you never noticed that you are using them. These technologies are really helping people with disabilities around the world everyday to be prosperous in their education. Something that is used often is audio recorders, these help individuals have the opportunity to re listen and adapt to the information if it takes them a little extra time than others. Another technology I find useful is timers, these help students who have trouble focusing keep time and show them how much time they have left in an activity. I know individuals with ADHD who use these technologies and find it very helpful for their learning experience. Speech Recognition is often used for dyslexic students when writing papers or assignments for school. These technologies serve a great purpose for students that need it and also for students who struggle everyday in class.
This week we also worked on a webpage design. This assignment really broadened my skills, I never knew how creative I could be with a classroom page. I also know what vital information I need to include on my future parents and how I can make it easier to navigate. I can improve by expanding it with a students corner and not focusing so much on the parents and the graphics of the web page.

Finally, Diigo is being used more during class activities. I find Diigo to be very useful as student because I am an avid note taker, being able to annotate and highlight really helps cement things in my mind. I also love seeing other people's opinions and thought processes through out assignments, it helps me think about things from a different angle and learn certain aspects easier from the different examples presented within the group page. Just like I am learning I hope my students can learn in the same aspect, from their peers in the classroom through examples and interactions about the subjects they are learning.

ILP Design Prezi

My First Independent Learning Project is a Black History Month presentation bringing to light a pivotal history that have been monumental for the Black Lives Movement. Prezi is a form of powerpoint presentation that provide a more creative way to present information. I like this form of design because it catches the attention of readers and students. As a future educator I use this system a lot because it is a fun way to add little designs. I centered my topic on the Black Lives Matter Movement because this is a new addition to Black History that will soon be in the history books. We always discuss the same leaders who are very important to the progression of history but I would like others to be aware of new individuals that are helping to pave the way.

Welcome Back !

I visited North Miami School, it is a public school in Miami Florida. This school has been around since 2011 and has been progressing ever since. While looking at the school page I noticed a couple of things like the honor roll, current events that are happening within the school related to parents and students. I also noticed the student council and clubs that are sponsored by specific teachers. Among that teachers explain current things that are going within their classroom that is vital for parents and their kids. Below you will see a screenshot of the mathematics curriculum for their elementary program .

In the classroom I hope to be a productive educator, in order to do that I would like to utilize my organizational skills within my lesson planning. In order to do this I would like to utilize the Microsoft Suite to use aspects like the presentation tools and the note taking documents along with many other tools so I can make myself as accessible to my students as I possibly can. Also blogging so much everyday has inspired me to create a class blog for students to express their feelings about what is truly going in the classroom without penalties .
Last week we visited the Sandbox, and there were a couple of things that caught my attention. One of them being the magnetic word game , I believe that is a great way to keep students engaged and learning. Also having the competitive aspect of the game can really encourage students to get involved and win prizes. Another aspect of technology that can be used is the smart board, I feel like so much time can be saved and other things can be accessed with that time . Students can try their creative sides more often and connect with internet while being monitored by the teachers. Thanks again for reading my blog !

Blog Post 5

Greetings,

Welcome back, today express our opinions Web 2.0 tools that are useful to us in the classroom. I find 2 that are very useful and vital to me as a future educator. One of them being power point presentations. I find this to be a great tool for the classroom because it aids students in focusing and it also aids them in following along. It is also a way to get creative with presentations to grab your students attention, this brings me to the next tool I believe is very vital. This is video tools, when I was in high school I loved when my government and science teacher would show me videos on a certain topic, this helped me reference back to the video when I was testing and trying to explain the topic to myself for testing reasons or to generally understand the subject.
An Web 2.0 tool I would love to use in my classroom is podcast. I want to teach US government, podcast would really change up the day and hold my students attention. Podcasts cover recent groundbreaking news and they also have a recording of history, when I have to revert back to explain old things in history that still impact us in society. I would also like to utilize recent videos in pop culture to explain to my students about government policy and why it is so important to know your rights and be able to educate others on their rights as well. Videos showcasing arrest and court cases from law and order can definitely put things into perspective for my students.
A technology advancement that I feel holds a lot of promise is correspondence courses. Often times students get sick for a while or it can be the common cold preventing them from coming to school. However when this happens it is easy to get left behind and get quite discouraged. These courses provide books and assignments that were missed for the student through the postal delivery system. This is a way to help students stay on track with their class mates and not feel entirely left behind when they are able to return to the physical school setting. Thank you again for reading !

Greetings and Welcome Back ,

Everyone uses twitter, it is a form of communication between individuals near and across the world. This form of communication can be surface level relationships and it can make deep friendships that you never thought were possible. This is done by watching the person tweet things about their day and aspects of life they find inspiring. Finding similar things you have in common and sharing opinions is a great part of twitter.I have experienced this through our EME class conversations and interactions on twitter. It feels great when people retweet your quotes and share the same education ideals as other future educators. I have interacted with classmates and we also retweet each other because we sometimes we find that we use the same quotes which shows how powerful those quotes are and the resonation it has with people in society.
As we move through the class, we discuss issues such as the digital divide . This is a big issues in a lot of schools. The digital divide is really based on students not having access to technology, although teachers continue to make it apart of assignments. This can be detrimental to a student's success because students in low income families most likely do not have access to computers and articles they need to complete assignments. Causes of the digital divide can be low income family issues, single parent incomes and family issues can come into play as well. This can have an affect how teachers conduct their classrooms because society is becoming heavily based on technology. This can leave students who can not afford technology behind and stunt their education growth within the classroom and also stunt teaching strategies that are needed for a bigger percentage of the class.I as a teacher can provide technology within the classroom for students to be able to complete their homework and assignments that require technology.
Student software can help a lot of students educate and exercise their minds by practicing outside of a lecture based environment. There are two student softwares I would like to incorporate within my class room for 9th grade mathematics. One of them being Math Mechanixs and the other being GeoGebra, I want my students to be able to teach themselves through this software and also make it fun for them by encouraging this type of behavior with technology.

Blog 3

Welcome back to my blog ,

This week we will talk about ELA technology standards that personally can be used with in my classroom. There are quite a few that I would love to implement with my students. The first would be connecting text to oral and visual representations. I feel like this would be great to implement because growing up in school I found it hard ti focus, however when my teacher would relate topics to visual representations I will truly begin to understand. I also reverted back to these images during my test, it is a great memory tool. This falls under multimedia literature, another aspect under this topic I would like to use would be comparing written story/drama/poem to audio, filmed stage, analyzing techniques such as sound color, camera focus/angle. We can use this in my classroom to also tie back to current media that relates to youth. When things are more personal, individuals tend to remember more and embed it in their memories.

There is a plethora of technology that can used within the classroom. Specifically technology software/applications. I will provide an example of how it can used within my personal classroom. This class is an english class for high school sophomores, we can learn verbs and vocabulary words through online softwares like scramble or charades. Students love competition and will engage because of prizes and a change of just learning through the textbook. Also using storytelling through the application audible, it can be a great read along for the entire classroom. The age range of my class, tend to loose focus quickly and soft ware and applications such as this can really keep their attention, at least for a little while.

Finally for this week's blog post I would like to address the Newsletter I composed last week. I loved the assignment because I was able to partake in a real educator situation and add my own flare to it. In learned how to make columns and add pictures. I also learned how to make a border which I never knew how simple it all could really be. I would like to incorporate this in my classroom by conducting a monthly newsletter for parents that unfortunately do not have the time to be involved in thier child's schooling as frequently as they would like because of work obligations. An imporvement will be invluding my students masterpieces to my newsletter so it can relate more to the parents . I believe seeing your child's progression encourages the child to do better because they love encouragement from their parents.

Blog Post 2

Welcome back,

From a young age, our first introduction to Microsoft Word was very early. Simply because this tool is vital to our education, it is used for at least 80% of assignments that we must turn in. I find Microsoft Word to be huge necessity in my life, I use it for small assignments and for aspects that might not even relate to my education. It is a great base to get your point across to other individuals with edits, pictures, graphs and different forms of format. So far in my education path I have seen teacher's heavily rely upon Microsoft. They even have formats they would like to see used. For example 1 inch magins, 12 pt font and times new roman lettering. This type of things have become the norm through the education world.
I did not understand copyright issues as I progressed through my education.  I saw it sometimes on DVD's but I always ignored it. Copyright is a right that was created by this country to claim ownership of things you created. For example I am writing this blog, therefore I own the rights to my writing. It came from me and me alone. The same could be said for the creator of a movie, that person owns it. When another individual attempts to bootleg or create a copy and sell it it becomes a crime because rights are being violated. As a teacher I would like to acknowledge early on in my classroom what copyrighting is and seriousness of this situation. Creating ways to show my students how it feels to have something taken from them, and reused in the same way that my students originally created it. In order to prove this I can make the students create something meaningful to them . After have them create a set of copyright rules, once they are done I will illustrate how each one can and will be broken. Doing this will help convey the seriousness of the copyright laws.
While reading the implementation aspect, I see a valid reason for these issues. Three solutions for some of them implementation for my class room can be used for a couple of issues. TurnItIN as a way to turn in assignments can be help with academic dishonesty . Also giving out different assignments so it would be harder to cheat or share assignments. Another solution can be for Freedom of Speech , discussing what the students feel is offensive and hurtful towards each can other can help with what is being said in the class, however I do not believe in restricitng someone's voice. Lastly another solution to the implementation issues is for Privacy. I believe in stressing the importance of privacy before we begin assignments, also conveying situations about how privacy can affect people in thier other lives.

" Current and future teachers must embrace this change, particularly in light of the changing skill sets that students need for success in the 21st century." The world is evolving everyday but what continues to remain consistent is the use of technology. It is a vital part of society that changes but the use of technology never lowers. This is a great reason for technology to be used within the classroom, students can learn how to access and use it for educational purposes. Teachers are influenced to use technology in order to make things easier and also more relatable to students. Teachers also can use technology as an administrative assistant through things like presentation, administrative support and lesson planning . Technology offers support in an efficient way for both the teachers and students.
From the reading I learned that ITSE purpose to aid students and teachers stay up to date with tools needed in this digital age which I find very useful since technology is constantly evolving . I found communication and collaboration to be very useful and makes  me happy to see. With the possibilities of the digital age you can expand education's reach to those who otherwise cannot afford to be in the same vicinity as the professor. An aspect that I feel is outside of my current skill set is developing the digital age through assessments, I feel that it is outside my skill set because I am not as advanced in technology but I feel like its a learning experience for both sides. I also believe that it does not always have to be complicated to make advances in educational technology as I had previously perceived it to be.
Digital Natives are individuals that are brought up during the digital age of activity and technology . They are familiar with the computer, ipads and things of that nature from an early age .Yes I have seen a difference between digital natives and immigrants. One of them being that they are not as dependent on technology for their everyday use. Digital natives can not go more than 24 hours without the use of technology like phones or computers. The differences in my learning experiences is that I do not have the patience of finding things out and struggling because I am so use to having access to the internet and looking up things I need quickly. I anticipate my students being even more impatient than I am today because I feel technology will continue to take out everyday necessities we think are necessary. Thank you for reading my blog !

Greetings and Welcome to my Blog,

In today's society it has been become the norm to use some form of technology everyday. I have had several experiences with technology. I own a iPhone, a mac computer and a television. This are the items I use everyday if necessary. I create power points, web designs, I use them to read books and stay up to date on what is going on in the world through social media and news technology.
In this class I hope to learn the names of what I participate in everyday, meaning terms like central processing unit . I use it everyday and I had no idea what the name of it was. I also hope to learn new things for the professional, aspects that are deemed necessary.
I have learned that I deal more in facts then in picture related details, I am an introvert more so, its hard for me to work in groups I also prefer written and explanatory text. It is hard for me to interpret diagrams and graphs. I would rather it be based in certainty as well and also stray from theories. I like to learn factual concepts in class because it easier to comprehend. I hope to grow to in this class in that sense and explore the options that I am not comfortable with, I like to step out of what I know because it allows me to grow as a person.
